Call of Duty: Black Ops was released by Activision Publishing on November 9, 2010. If you buy this game and want to play it, please read this post.
Story of the game
Inspired by the experiences of real Black Ops soldiers of the era, the missions of Call of Duty: Black Ops take the player to a wide variety of settings, ranging from snowbound mountain strongholds in historical Soviet held territories, to the jungles and urban settings of Vietnam War era SE Asia. Throughout all, care has been taken to maintain the traditional essence of Call of Duty style combat, while also introducing new types of player action that add to the gameplay experience. Additional features include co-op, versus and team-based multiplayer options, new vehicles like the SR-71 Blackbird and lethal new weapons such as explosive-tipped crossbows.
Tips
Campaign mode
The story is written better and is easier to follow for the most part, but the flashbacks can be a little distracting. But I can say for a fact that I really got addicted to the single player mode. The audio is pretty sweet, the voice overs are good and the story is alright.
Throughout most of the campaign, you play as Alex Mason. We find him in some kind of place being questioned by an unknown man. Based on the questioning and the overall "conversation," Mason has flashbacks as to what happened to him and what led to him where he is at the moment. I won't reveal much more in case whoever reads this has not played Black Ops, but the overall story is very over-the-top compared to any of Treyarch's past Call of Duty games. You can tell they went the "Modern Warfare" route with Black Ops, which is by no means a bad thing. Because for the most part, Black Ops has a riveting and exciting campaign.
I found the first level to not be that easy/fun, it's a beginners mission where your team does most the work for you. You can try to rush ahead of them but risk running right into a spot with no cover which is really bad on harder dificulties. It gets a great deal better after that though. It's a flashback story line (similar to Prince of Persia: Sands of Time or Assassins Creed), but it's not bad.
The missions get progressively harder, in one mission you get to pilot a helicopter and partly in another mission you get to control a team from a stealth fighter plane. The game does seem to randomly jump around and unless you know at least some of the history you may not have any idea what's actually going on, if not then just don't really focus on the story and just play the levels.
The zombies are back. You start the game out with one map but after completing the campaign you get access to a pentagon level featuring Castro and Kennedy and two other American icons as playable survivors.A third level is an overtop camera allowing for an arcade version of zombies that would normally cost around 10 dollars to download.
These aren't traditional zombies however and can be taken down with just body shots, they gradually become harder to take down and become faster. They start with just 1-2 shots at a slow walk then eventually can take a whole clip and keep on running. As the little bottom blurb's state the ray gun is best but if you know your team then you want a balance of weapons (if you cant or don't want to travel all the way to/can't afford the raygun). Preferable set up is shotgun for the least accurate person, machine gun for the least trigger happy people, and rifle for the most accurate. You can obviously adjust that based on your's and your teams skill level, if you and your team are great at making quick and accurate headshot under pressure then you should all use rifles with a machinegun/shotgun back-up. If you aren't accurate then either a machine gun used sparingly (short bursts) that reloads quickly or a shotgun that has a good ammo capacity and reloads quickly (the Olympia sucks, 2 shots and ridiculous load time), preferably a Spas-12 because it has an ammo capacity of 8 and a relatively quick reload time.

Online Multi-player
No more commando/lightweight users, no excessive noob tube damage, and no impossible kills from all the way across the screen. In addition there is no more stacking of kill streaks, meaning any kills you get from your kill streak rewards will not count towards your kill streak. Because of this you can no longer sit back and let your kill streaks do all the work if you want to get your higher rewards. The upgrades and customizations are a really neat addition.
The equipment isn't really all THAT useful, the motion sensor would be really good if you could use it on your person, but since it stays stationary it's only good for objective games like Search and Destroy. You can also change the reticle (normally the dot on your lens weapons, the reflex scope and red dot sight) to a different look such as a skull, smily face, heart, crosshairs, etc. You can also change the color to either red, blue, green and so on, a full list is either on the game, or here: http:// www.iplaycod. com/forums/ 93-black-ops-tips-guides /3700-black-ops-camos-reticles .cod. The maps are also better because there's not really any cheapo sniping places.

Knifing
You have to be right up on somebody in order to stab them.
Wager Matches
Teaches you ammo reservation and patience, plus it's just down right fun. 6 players with 3 lives, 1 handgun, 1 round, and 1 knife. Kill someone with a round, you regain that 1 round of ammo. Knife someone and you gain an extra round. Much less intense than playing a free-for-all with guns being constantly shot and grenades constantly exploding, but the added suspense is what makes really enjoyable. There are different buy-in levels, starting small with $10 as the lowest level, $1000 as medium, and I never checked, but I'm sure the third and highest level is $10,000 (but I could be wrong). Even then, you're able to Double Down and change the buy-in to $20 once you've joined the lobby, but everyone else has to agree by selecting "Double Down" as well. I'm yet to try any of the other wager matches.
New system for weapon upgrades. Instead of having to get 6 million headshots to get a new camo for your gun or attachment, you now have to buy your upgrades with money you earn during your matches.
