Space Station: Vanquish

Vanquish is a new action - shooter game released on October 19, 2010 by Sega Of America, Inc publisher.

In Vanquish, a game for PS3 and Xbox 360, the war between USA and Russia is for a space station which captures energy resources from the sun.

The US has constructed a space station in order to harness energy from the sun. Russian forces capture this space station and divert its harvested solar energy into a blast wave that destroys San Francisco, aiming to force the US into a total and unconditional surrender. In response, the US tasks its armed forces with recapturing the space station before the Russians can annihilate their next target - New York.

If you like the fast action and pace of the old arcade style shooters, this is for you. This game sets you in the third person perspective and gives you a fast paced action set with movement and attack options.

Stages are short ranging from about 5 - 15 minutes to complete with the longer ones having plenty of checkpoints along the way. These short stages make it easy to try them again and best your score. If you failed to get a better score, it wasnt like you just wasted 45 minutes of time and also had to wait through a couple minutes of cutscenes. Its just in and out. Weapon upgrades couldnt be easier. If you have a Sniper Rifle and pick up another Sniper Rifle, it gets upgraded with more damage, pick up another one and your magazine size increases. Easy and fast, no pause menu to upgrade or to switch weapons. Works great. You get points based on time completion, death penalties, friendlys rescued. This point systems helps a lot for re-playablity, like an arcade game, you want your initials near the top. This game is also gorgeous to look at it. Even though the entire game takes place on a space station, the stages all feel unique. You start out in a normal flat terrain battlefied. Then it tosses you into an uphill battle with huge pieces of debris tumbling down while you fight your way to the top. The battles can get intense with marines fighting alongside you. Aircraft will swarm in launching missles, explosions everywhere, debris falling all around, laser beams zipping by like a star wars battle. There is no limit to boss encounters. Some are jetpack suits like you, large transformer-like bots, others are huge, er, gigantic mechs with feet the size of a football field that will be stomping around you while you have to try and take it down. Just an insane game that needs to be experienced.
